Great starter
So far this starter has resulted in nothing but awesome yogurt - with a mild flavor. It is fine without straining but I usually strains with a yogurt strainer for whatever thickness I desire and my Greek version is, well, awesome. There seems to be some confusion about how much one sachet produces. The front of the 10-pack envelope says "Makes up to 1.5 quarts of creamy yogurt" but the directions on the back of the envelope says "Heat 64 fl. oz (1/2 gallon) of milk". So unless you strain the yogurt you will have made 2 quarts of yogurt. I regularly use yogurt from the previous batch as a starter (6 tablespoons for 1/2 gallon) instead of this dried starter, and when I use the dried starter I add 3 tablespoons of the previous batch. According to my friend at ChatGPT it is a good idea to add fresh starter every so often. My next project will be to go beyond Greek yogurt and make a yogurt cheese log.

1st batch is excellent
My first batch has created this light yogurt that I was craving: very different from the creamy ones you find in store (“Greek yogurt” style, semi-liquid) the yogurt I got are solid and light even with whole milk. The taste is good and I hope to be able to create more different type (1st batch was plain)!starting from there. Thanks!

Not worth trying
Did work the first time. Followed directed but the cultures didn't work. Did a lot of research, learned that you have to let the dry culture sit before using. Tried this and still no yogurt! Not going to worst my time or money anymore.

Makes a creamy yogurt and can be re-cultured.
Arrived quickly. The zip sealing bag contains 10 packets of starter culture powder. Each packet contains about 1/10th of the length of the package. So, I guess you don't need a lot! That all being said, I have just begun making yogurt after 40 of not making it on my old machine. It made 6 pints at a time and was too work intensive compared to yogurt machines today. Now I have a simpler one that makes just one 8oz serving at a time. I'm single, so it's perfect. Anyway, the instructions on the package are simple and easy and you can supposedly make 64 oz of yogurt with a single pack of starter. The starter itself looks clean and pure. You simply add that to part of your pre heated milk (108 degrees) and then mix the rest together and start making. I had previously been making my yogurt simply by adding 2 tablespoons of fresh, active culture yogurt to my 8 oz container and starting the machine to both incubate, warm and then finally chill. It turned out beautifully. When this product arrived, I continued using my live yogurt, but added half of a pack to the mix and made it as usual. It turned out really thick and was a fast ferment. It hs a very smooth texture and has just slightly more tang to its taste than the yogurt before using it. I am going to continue experimenting, but so far I can only say that I am well pleased. The price is fine, but in the future, if I continue making yogurt with starter cultures, I will probably purchase a larger quantity package to really get a higher value for my money.

First time making Yogurt
I believe that this is a good product, there seems to be a bit of a learning process for me since I am using fresh raw Jersey cow milkI followed the directions to the tee, but it turned out like a thick gravy. A little bit of research told me that fresh raw milk was good at producing this texture. They suggested adding either pectin or cologne to the milk when it's heating before adding the culture and allowing for the blum. Other than that, it tasted really good.

Me having spine surgery 2 weeks ago didn't have yogurt on my list to eat and its been jello & creamy soups so why not, let's go. So researched i decided let's try this started. WOW!!! Game changer. I followed the directions, real simple, no hassle. The taste is great plain, its thick. I feel i aced it. For me im really excited about this new yogurt venture. Awesome product. slow to desolve before starting Starter.
great product for a faster process for Sourdough. took longer to desolve, but would suggest warm location. Waited until second day to bake early morning while fresh.
